In his latest book, Cosmopolitan Managers: Executive Development that Works (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016), the Dean of IE Business School, Santiago Íñiguez, explores the billion-dollar industry that is executive education, sharing insights and research into what makes exceptional corporate education.

As the future of a business or a career depends on developing managerial talent to its fullest potential, isn’t it time to take a serious look at how to design and deliver an excellent executive education program? Cosmopolitan Managers: Executive Development that Works offers practical, research-based advice on what works in executive education – and what doesn’t.

Until he was appointed Executive President of IE University, Santiago Íñiguez was the Dean of IE Business School – one of the world’s leading providers of executive education – for over a decade. Described by the Financial Times as ‘one of the most significant figures in promoting European business schools internationally, and recently named Poets and Quants’ Dean of the Year, Íñiguez provides an in-depth look at how to design and deliver extraordinary corporate education.

Íñiguez challenges the prevailing idea that STEM-based analytical skills have the most impact for producing great managers and leaders. He argues that finding a balance between the technical, analysis-based ‘engineering’ training that forms the basis of many senior managers’ initial study with a more rounded, integrated approach that includes learning derived from the humanities, such as art and history, is part of the solution.

From the impact of MOOCs to the evolution of new multi-dimensional strategic alliances between companies and a range of international education suppliers, institutions and consultancies, Iñiguez delves into how the future of executive education is changing to meet the needs and aspirations of top managerial talent.

Illustrated with fascinating examples drawn from interviews with some of the most influential figures in business education and corporate training around the world, Cosmopolitan Managers: Executive Development that Works offers a unique perspective and valuable insights on what it takes to deliver world-class corporate training.

Published by Palgrave Macmillan, Cosmopolitan Managers: Executive Development that Works is a follow-up to Íñiguez’ 2011 book, The Learning Curve: How Business Schools Are Re-inventing Education (202 pages, Palgrave Macmillan), which explores how to create educational institutions that are academically rigorous and vocationally relevant.
