Dr. Sami Mahroum

Dr. Sami Mahroum is Professor of Innovation and Policy at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Solvay Business School of the Free University of Brussels, Senior Fellow at the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy at the American University of Beirut and Director of Research and Strategy at the Dubai Future Foundation. 

He has over 20 years experience in technological innovation and policy both in academia and thinktanks. His book Black Sawn Startups: Understanding the Rise of Successful Technology Business in Unlikely Places published by Palgrave in 2016 has been downloaded over 17,000 times. 

Claire Jones

Claire Jones joined FT Alphaville in August 2019 to cover the global economy. That brought to a close a twelve-year stint writing about the world’s monetary guardians, most recently the European Central Bank for the Financial Times.

She is based in Frankfurt and writes about anything that lies at the intersection of economics, politics and markets, as well as how economics should be taught.
